Em Cabo Verde, são sobretudo as mulheres que sustentam, preservam e transmitem as danças tradicionais, assegurando a continuidade de saberes, gestos e memórias entre gerações. Partindo da Mazurca cabo-verdiana — expressão musical e coreográfica profundamente enraizada na cultura do arquipélago — “Fêma” (mulher em criolu) propõe uma reimaginação dos seus códigos de movimento a partir de uma investigação sobre as múltiplas manifestações do feminino.
Interpretada por duas criadoras-intérpretes de diferentes gerações e percursos, a obra habita um espaço entre tradição e especulação futurista, onde os corpos funcionam como territórios de reinvenção. Entre permanência e mutação, Fêma questiona os papéis historicamente atribuídos às mulheres e propõe novas possibilidades de existência, imaginando futuros onde o género deixa de ser uma estrutura fixa para se tornar um campo aberto de transformação.
In Cape Verde, it is primarily women who sustain, preserve and pass on traditional dances, ensuring the continuity of knowledge, movements and memories across generations. Taking the Cape Verdean Mazurka — a musical and choreographic form deeply rooted in the archipelago’s culture — as its starting point, ‘Fêma’ (woman in Creole) proposes a reimagining of its movement codes through an exploration of the multiple manifestations of the feminine.
Performed by two creator-performers from different generations and backgrounds, the work occupies a space between tradition and futuristic speculation, where bodies function as territories of reinvention. Between permanence and change, Fêma questions the roles historically assigned to women and proposes new possibilities for existence, imagining futures where gender ceases to be a fixed structure and becomes an open field of transformation.

Djam Neguin
Djam Neguin é um artista multidisciplinar cabo-verdiano, coreógrafo, performer, encenador e produtor cultural, reconhecido pelo seu trabalho inovador na interseção entre dança, teatro, tecnologia e pensamento afrofuturista. Fundador e diretor artístico do Festival Kontornu – Festival Internacional de Dança e Artes Performativas, tem desenvolvido uma trajetória marcada pela experimentação estética, pela valorização das identidades africanas contemporâneas e pela criação de obras que dialogam com temas como descolonização, memória, futuro, espiritualidade e transformação social.
Com apresentações, residências e projetos em diversos países de África, Europa, América Latina, o seu trabalho cruza linguagens artísticas, saberes tradicionais e tecnologias emergentes, explorando novas formas de narrativa e participação do público. Paralelamente à sua atividade como criador, dedica-se à formação, curadoria e desenvolvimento de plataformas de intercâmbio cultural, contribuindo para a internacionalização das artes performativas de Cabo Verde e para a construção de novos imaginários africanos.
Djam Neguin is a multidisciplinary Cape Verdean artist, choreographer, performer, director and cultural producer, recognised for his innovative work at the intersection of dance, theatre, technology and Afrofuturist thought. As founder and artistic director of the Kontornu Festival – International Festival of Dance and Performing Arts – he has built a career characterised by aesthetic experimentation, the celebration of contemporary African identities, and the creation of works that engage with themes such as decolonisation, memory, the future, spirituality and social transformation.
With performances, residencies and projects across various countries in Africa, Europe and Latin America, his work blends artistic languages, traditional knowledge and emerging technologies, exploring new forms of storytelling and audience participation. Alongside his work as a creator, he is dedicated to training, curation and the development of platforms for cultural exchange, contributing to the internationalisation of Cape Verde’s performing arts and to the construction of new African imaginaries.
